“3G is not broadband!”

Posted in Tech, Telcos by themediaslut on the January 21st, 2007

What happens when a Stanford professor. in a conference, says 3G is not broadband?

You get very angry mobile phone vendors!

From Hindustan Times :

Seminars are usually staid affairs, but a recent one on WiMax organised by Assocham was far from being so.

Nokia’s representative Prashant Agnihotri got into a furious argument with telecom expert P. Paulraj, professor at Stanford, who worked closely with Sam Pitroda.

What was it all about?

Paulraj declared that 3G technology did not qualify as “broadband” at all! Nokia, whose major marketing strategy projects 3G as the future of broadband, could not possibly take that lying down. But DoT representatives supported Nokia!

No wonder Singaporeans are not picking up 3G . They are smart enough to see through all the marketing hype from the phone vendors!

Broadband term for marketing sake or maybe to facilitate comprehension.
