Thai Government Blocks YouTube
(Update: This entry was Tomorrowed on Sunday night, March 12 2007. themediaslut would like to thank the “annoymous coward” who suggested the entry.
However, Smartbrain posted an update on Saturday afternoon, March 11 2007, that the block was lifted around noon on the same day.)
The Thai ICT Ministry has blocked YouTube. Anyone waking up in Thailand entering www.youtube.com is now redirected to the www.mict.go.th website. No updates yet as to why or what content was blocked. Google has not responded to requests for clarification yet either (though the email was sent off only hours ago).
What is interesting is that instead of the usual block page, it is actually redirected to the MICT website, with no explaination as to why.
Banana republic? Maybe. But at least the crazy, right-wing government is not killing thousands of their own people yet, unlike the previous one. Though how much more people can stand trade off freedom of speech for life remains to be seen.
