Kite flyers union demand more pay for flying bigger kites

Besides the current pay tussle between Singapore International Airlines (SIA) and their pilots, the kite flying union here has also taken the kite owners to court over pay issues.

The union of professional kite flyers in red-dot nation are demanding for more pay from their pay as they will be slated to fly a very big kite later in the year and have taken the owners of the very kite to court to settle it out. 

The kite owners fired the first salvo by highlighting that there is no difference between flying a small kite and a very very big kite.

The kite flyers defended that flying a big kite and small kite is not like riding a bicycle.

"To fly a very very big kite requires lot of responsibilities," said the president of Omega-K, the union of professional kite flyers.

"There are more strings attached to a very very big kite. Small kites have lesser strings so they are easier to handle."

The owners of the very very big kites have countered that there will be no difference in flying a big or small kites.

"A kite is still a kite," said the very very big kites owners.

"We have designed the environment to meet the demands of flying a very very big kite. All the kite flyers need to do is to pull the string."

Law observers expect the judge to tell the kite flyers and kite owners to "go fly kite "!

    I’ll side with the kite fliers on this one — flying a big kite is not at all like flying a little one, what with having to tie it off to a dumptruck or other piece of heavy equipment, and with the need to supervise a crew of ten to fly the kite (and to keep them all safe!)

    In the US. I feel that big kite fliers are adequately compensated, I only hope that this will soon be the case all over the world.

    Consider car drivers.

    Most people older than 16 years can learn to drive a car. Many do it rather well, while others never manage to learn parking or good road manners, ever. Mostly, a car is a vehicle to get from A to B. Not brain surgery.

    Then, think of the precision Formula 1 Racing car with so much extra power and speed at the drivers’ fingertips. Factor in the greater chance of accident & serious damage to the driver, vehicle and spectators, and the car is no longer just a vehicle. Now it’s a precision instrument, requiring highly-developed skills.

    It’s the same with kites.
    small kite = family car or scooter!
    B-I-G kite = high-performance, high-powered, precision machine

    Kite flyers do not get rich, they just work to a higher level of precision and care.

    I’ve witnessed the B-I-G kite experience and can say the flyers earned every cent.
