SMRT celebrates life as long it is not on their trains
Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) Corporation is currently running a campaign to reward commuters for traveling on their trains which ends on April 30, 2008.
The tagline for the campaign is “Ride SMRT, Celebrate Life!”. However, it seems that when flash mob group Mission:Singapore (M:SG) of 18 members threw a party on SMRT train, starting from Marina Bay, they were stopped by a station manager at Admiralty station.
Wrote Daryll Nanayakra for MyPaper,
The enthusiasm of the group soon caught on with the commuters, who seemed to like the idea…
Another commuter, Madam Polly Au, 51, an accounts executive, also liked the idea. She explained: “It’s a very fun idea, as long as the SMRT people don’t come catching them!”
And that was exactly what happened at Admiraty. The group was told to leave the train after a station manager came to investigate, following a tip-off from a commuter.
The station maanger, who only wanted to be known as Nara, 42, said: “Dancing is not allowed because users might users might cause obstruction to the other commuters.”
SMRT, you are such a party pooper!

“Dancing is not allowed because users might users might cause obstruction to the other commuters.”
That’s funny because OVER-CROWDED trains definitely cause more obstruction to other commuters and they’re not doing anything about it…
While the celebrate life idea is pretty interesting, maybe SMRT is having a headache of how lives are ending underneath the trains instead?
This people are trying to bring fun and entertainment to Singapore. This is how Singapore should be like and not the same old dull boring thing u see everyday.
i will give them the credit for going all out to bring more life to Singapore .. bet it takes some hell of a courage to put that up.
i am sure that they know of the consequences as well but they carried they are determine to carry it out.

Well, according to SMRT, they are out to make a profit from transporting passengers. Having a party without their knowledge means that they could potentially lose an opportunity to make money.
Train Party License Fee, anyone?

You have just given their CEO a new revenue stream! Flashmob s license!
Pretty soon, SMRT will also impose baggage charges as big bags will reduce the amount of space available for SMRT to cram as many profit-generating passengers into their carriages.
BTW, SMRT just announced 10.4% increase in net profit amidst 7.9% growth in revenue 22.6% increase in operating profit.
More good years for SMRT by squeezing as many passengers/train. They should pay directors handsomely for such a profitable organisation which provides a public good.
