Adverlets abetting online gambling?
Cowboy Celeb, who is a strong supporter of Nuffnang, raised an interesting question about Adverlets’ blog advertisement campaign with Ascort Sports.
Wrote Cowboy Celeb,
Adverlets is even going to have sponsored blog posts for Ascorts.
While this is very exciting, some questions come to mind - Isn’t online gambling illegal in all of those three countries?
I know it’s most definitely illegal in Singapore and most of the online bookies have not been accepting Singapore credit cards since 2002. Same thing for Malaysia as well. And the communist party in China has most definitely has identified gambling as a social ill.
Jialat, the blogger who inspired Cowboy Celeb to the post the entry above, commented ” im not really care as long as they pay me …”
Adverlets might argue that they are not a gambling site, but the question is whether a banner that links to a gambling site is abetting in a crime.
Law is law, but if you really feel that promoting gambling on your site is not your style, go to your Adverlets dashboard setting and take out of the option to have gambling ads.

wah, i am quoted here again. by the way, it’s jialat, not “jialet”, paiseh, and thank you.
Hi, just a note - gambling and betting ads are opt-in, not opt-out. Meaning, only those that choose to display such ads will get such ads.
Heya,
Yup, that was something we definitely considered before. And remember, its opt-in, not opt-out. So by default, if you don’t do anything, you won’t and will never serve gambling ads. Unless of course, its your style, and you want to, you would then check the box and save your preferences to opt-in to gambling ads.
And regarding legality:

“First, the MDA, unlike the regulatory authorities in some Asian countries, does not appear to view itself as having extraterritorial jurisdiction over ICPs and other service providers that are not in Singapore, even if those services are accessible to the Singapore public. This is consistent with the MDA stated intention to regulate broadcast, not user access, and is consistent with ordinary notions of extra-territoriality.”

“Ascot Sports (IOM) Ltd “Ascot Sports” (registration number 113018C) is a duly incorporated company in the Isle of Man with its registered office at 10 Hill Street, Douglas and betting office at First Floor, Cumbrea House, Market Street, Douglas, Isle of Man.”
Cheers!
Guys, don’t have to kick up a fuss anymore. Ascotsports.com has gone the way of the dodo bird.

Er, how come you didn’t approve my other comment? Just curious…
Might have accidentally deleted with all the spam.
Sorry about that. Do you mind putting the comment up again?
Thanks.
ADvertlets / Josh, seems you don’t even read the law book properly, even under the IOM laws, betting gaming are not allowed to be promoted unless you have a gaming license.
Gosh, you surely should know since advertlets.com.sg is subjected to laws by Singapore and clearly, SAVENERGY PTE LTD should be well aware, or you waiting for someone to pick you up and deliver you to CHANGI PRISON for fraud too (deliberate non-payment is actually classed under cheating).
If one should use betting ads, will be Aductions as they have US and UK offices and licensed for them too, but they stay away from the sins as it’s not good. Even local advertising media is shying from Genting.
Good luck
