Another Malaysian blogger arrested
Syed Azidi Syed Aziz, aka Sheih “Kickdefella”, as been arrested by the Malaysian police under the Sedition Act.
Wrote The Malaysian Insider,
Syed Azidi’s wife Bariah Ishak said her husband was picked up from their house in Demit, here at 5.05pm.
She said three plainclothes policemen came in a dark-tinted white Pajero and told her that they were detaining her husband and would bring him to Kuala Lumpur today.
“They said my husband was arrested under the Sedition Act,” she said when contacted.
Meanwhile Kelantan deputy police chief SAC II Amir Hamzah Ibrahim, when contacted, said he could not confirmed the matter as the Kelantan police was not informed about it.
Kickdefella was probably arrested for asking Malaysians to hang the Malaysia flag upside down during the recent Merdeka celebrations.
Malaysia’s deputy prime minister launches a blog?
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the deputy prime minister of Malaysia, has launch a personal website called 1Malaysia.
Wrote The Star,
In an introductory video, the Deputy Prime Minister said he hoped the site would develop into a free and open platform for dialogue.
“Rational dialogue,” he noted, “to discuss the things that matter deeply to us as a nation.”
“While I may not always agree with you, be assured that your views will be heard,” he said, adding that he welcomed different views and perspectives.
“What makes Malaysia unique is the diversity of our people … and I want to preserve this diversity and unity,” he added.
However, the recent arrest of Sin Chew journalist under the Internal Security Act may see those with opposing views get arrested under ISA for their protection too.
Be careful when you leave a comment on the blog as you also leave your IP address behind as a footprint.
Anwar claims 31 BN members
Some friends have highlighted access the Malaysian news portal outside from Malaysia.
Here’s an update.
According to The Star, Anwar has announced at a press conference at 2pm that he has 31 BN members ready to defect to his side, enough to form the next Government in Malaysia.
Wrote The Star,
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has claimed that more than 31 Barisan MPs have agreed to cross over to Pakatan Rakyat.
He, however, refused to reveal the names of the 31 MPs.
Anwar told a press conference at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya on Tuesday that he would do so when he meets the Prime Minister.
… In a letter submitted to Abdullah on Monday, Pakatan had made four demands to ensure a smooth transition:
1) That Barisan does not hinder or prevent the MPs from acting in accordance with their conscience and judgement;
2) That the Barisan government should not invoke the Internal Security Act to detain the MPs or any other current Pakatan MPs;
3) That Barisan government does not invoke emergency laws or police powers or suspend the Constitution or dissolve Parliament; and
4) That the Barisan government shall not impose roadblocks or impede MPs from going to Parliament or any institution of government.
Singapore High Commmission explains MY VIP access at land checkpoints
Malaysia’s Tengku Bendahara recently complained that Singapore Customs has taken away Malaysia’s VIP access at Singapore landed checkpoints as he was crossing into Malaysia.
Singapore High Commission, however, wrote a letter to The Star today in response to the article, which strangely cannot be found online.
Wrote Walter Chia, Press Officer for the Singapore High Commission,
The privileges accorded to Malaysian VIPs at Singapore’s land checkpoints are similar to those accorded to Singaporean VIPs at the Malaysian land checkpoints.
However, staff of the Malaysian High Commission no longer enjoy the privilege of VIP access if they are not accompanying Malaysian VIPs through the checkpoints.
It was necessary to tighten the Malaysian High Commission’s use of the VIP lanes as there had been a number of incidents involving its staff, such as failing to stop for immigration clearance, and not producing identification (including not carrying a passport).
In one case, a Malaysian High Commission vehicle attempted to abet an immigration offence by ferrying a Malaysian overstayer from Singapore to Johor.
……The Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur had also kept the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Malaysia informed of the new guidelines on Aug 14. The incident on Sept 6 involving High Commissioner Datuk N. Parameswaran was therefore unnecessary and regrettable.
However, I wish to clarify that, despite what was reported in your article, the Tengku Bendahara of Johor was cleared through the VIP lane without unnecessary delay.
