So basically…
themediaslut has been busy lately @ work, and recording, editing and launching the Digital Podshots series with Aaron Koh, Vishnu Mahmud and Leslie Joseph on the topic of digital cameras.
Since the Digital Podshots series was launched last Tuesday, there have been 81 downloads of the two episodes (according the to hipcast.com graphs and accurate as of the entry post.).
You may find the Digital Podshots iPod unfriendly but it was designed to be more desktop friendly.
There is a reason for it.
"People spend more time on their desktops and laptops surfing the Internet," explained Aaron Koh, one of the producers of FlacknEt productions.
"So why not let visitors open the browser, go to the site, click on the play button and listen to the Digital Podshots, while they open another tab in the browser or browser and get on with their daily routine on their desktops and laptops."
When you start doing new things, you learn new things too and more about yourself too.
For example, Leslie Joseph of John 3:16 Photo Supplies has this penchant of adding the word "basically" during the recorded conversation especially when the word does not create any drama to the point being made.
The worst part is that it became very infectious during the recording.
If you listen to the Canon 400D recording, you would noticed Vishnu Mahmud adding "basically" to his sentences somewhere in the middle of the podshots..
themediaslut bet that you go down to John 3:16 today and talk to Leslie, he would sprinkle his explaination of a camera with a couple of "basically".
One of the more popular question that themediaslut had to answer to friends is whether one is able to make money out of podcasting itself.
For the moment, to get revenue from advertisers for a podcast, similar to traditional mass media, is tough.
This is because podcasting is still seen as a very new medium and not many companies, especially those in Asia, would be quick to adopt new things.
Only until podcasting goes mainstream than would you see advertisers looking to put their money in podcast.
But this means your podcast must already have a strong following to acheive this.
However, if you consider using podcast as an extension of your marketing activity to position your company as one of the thought leaders in the industry, it might work.
For example, John 3:16 Photo Supplies do not have a working website but with the podcast, it helps the retailer to reach out to the Internet generation to go get a camera from them.
This is not done by promoting on the podcast with how good their prices or services are, but rather amplify their knowledge of phtography through the podcast.
The marketing tactic here is to highlight that when you go to John 3:16 to get a camera, you are not just getting a camera, but a shop who help you as you embarked on your photography journey.
Aaron also highlighted to themediaslut that she needs to beef up her knowledge on wines as Aaron has been approached by a local distributor of Australian wines to help her start a podshot series on wine appreciation.
The wine podcast is target to launch in Feburary, so keep your ear buds, or rather taste buds, open for it.
