Smells like teen spirit, sounds like Woodstock
Smartbrain commented the protest today felt more like a rock concert.
Well.. Could it be the protest site had a rock concert too?

The band on stage is a folk band called Caravan.
The band also included Nga Caravan, a former October 1976 student activist.
Smartbrain declared,"Caravan Rocks!"

Smartbrain added the crowded erupted as the music played on.

Early morning edition
Its 7am here in Singapore and 6am in Bangkok.
Good morning, World.
This is themediaslut taking over from a 4am post from Smartbrain and thanks for the photos.
The march to the Democracy Monument - the arrival (cont’d)

It was here at the Democracy Monument where Sondhi delcared fifth of March as D’Day.
Thoughts at 4 a.m.
It is now nearly 4 in the morning and Smartbrain is still emailing
out pictures to themediaslut who, Smartbrain do hope, will post them when
she wakes up.
Thailand now heads into a period of political
turmoil.
In case you haven’t read the news, all the opposition parties
in the previous parliament have declared that they will boycott the
upcoming election and have said that the problem is Prime Minister
Thaksin Shinawatra himself.
Smartbrain was almost crushed today
when the human wall moved towards Democracy monument. "You’re not
getting though into the inner circle", the ruffian said as Smartbrain,
along with many others, were almost crushed and pushed to the ground.
"I’m not trying to get through", was the reply. "The perimeter moved and I had nowhere to go!".
Still, minor scruffles aside, the pictures tonight were definitely worth it.
The
organisers of the event say there will be a low-key vigil until the
5th, so TMS will probably not have any major updates until then.
Smartbrain may post a few analysis and opinion pieces in the meantime.
One
thing that must be said, the people here were not definitely of the
middle to upper middle class.
Directors of government agencies and of
major IT multinationals which shall forever remain nameless attended.
Most of the actors in the Chinese Play yesterday are former activists
and today are millionaire businessmen, reunited for one purpose.
Thaksin
gambled on the election to silence opposition.
He said that if he was
voted back then all dissent - including allegations of corruption and
concealment of assets - must stop.
Today it looks like the move
may not have been the best one.
The next few days will tell and history
will, one way or the other, be written.
Smartbrain now goes go
bed with a quote from George Washington in mind. ‘If you call a tail a
leg, then how many legs does a dog have?"
The answer is four.
Calling a tail a leg does not make it one.
Definitely a thought that
has many applications in today’s turmultuous political scene.
Good night.
It’s a dog life - But somebody has to post the pics for posterity and there are people reading the site too..

Thai Protest Day 2
Smartbrain has told themediaslut the protestors have started to march from Sanam Luang (The Royal Field)to the Democracy Monument.

March started from Sanam Leung…

…. to the Democracy Monument…
A fellow reader wanted to share with fellow readers about Thammasat University which has been the symbol of Thai democracy fighting since the students uprising in 1972.
To Boo: Yes, themediaslut has used Google Earth. So the score now is Google 4 Yahoo 1 MSN 0.
“Live” SMS reporting
After the last transmission of photos, Smartbrain was unable to get any CDMA wireless connection.
However, themediaslut and Smartbrain are still communicating via SMS.
themediaslut will relay Smartbrain’s SMS as themediaslut receives it.
27/02/2006 23:42 Mob is moving to the Democracy Monument next.
27/02/2006 23:46 Sondhi has set Sunday 5th March as D-Day. Has called for everyone in Thailand to join in the protests.
27/02/2006 23:58 You might want to stay up for this historice event.
themediaslut will try to stay up but has told Smartbrain to SMS for any updates.
Update (28/02/2006 07:35) - Calls for a peaceful march
Smartbrain added in his latest email Sondhi called for a peaceful march towards the Democracy Monument.
Sondhi also told the protesters not to burn down or in any way attach the National Lottery Office.
The National Lottery Office is said to be the place which prints the election ballots.
Sondhi has accused the office for printing duplicate ballots which were alledgedly used in the previous elections.
